Xidong At Squire Farm

Chapel Lawn, Bucknell, Shropshire, Away from it all

The Squire Farm Holiday Cottages has two unique properties on offer. It is a small farm in the secluded, peaceful surroundings of the Redlake Valley in the southwest corner of Shropshire, near the Welsh border. These are two very different self-catering cottages where dogs or cats (or guinea pigs) are welcome. The farmhouse, barns and the two cottages are surrounded by twenty-five acres of woodland and pasture grazed by sheep and horses. There are also chickens, dogs and cats. A stream below the buildings meanders through some ancient woodland and the River Redlake runs along the northern boundary. The approach is by a private farm track, which ensures complete peace, privacy and safety.

The area of The Marches is on the border between England and Wales and is steeped in history. Squire Farm lies beneath the imposing old fortificatioin of Caer Caradoc and old castles are much in evidence. Ludlow, the food centre of the world to some, is only half and hour's drive away and the border towns of Hereford and Shrewsbury, only an hour south and north. Being a 'foody' area means that there are plenty of places to eat, where the chefs know the meaning of 'local food'. the area is also home to artists, writers and musicians. For active guests, the surrounding country is networked with footpaths and open access woodland, for longerm ore serious walkers there is Offa's Dyke, Jack Mytton Way and other long distance path only a few miles from the farm and garden enthusiasts are well catered for with many garden open to the public.

Xidong is a converted stone cow barn, finished in an oriental style. The cottage gives an immediate feeling of peace, serenity and space with large french windows opening onto the private walled garden. There is an interesting wet room feature and a hot-tub in the garden, from where you can view the surrounding hills.
