The Portloe Boathouse

Portloe , Truro, Cornwall, Seaside village

The Portloe Boathouse possesses probably the most astonishing view of any holiday cottage in Cornwall! Perched right on the cliff overlooking the delightful little harbour at this magical village on the Roseland Peninsula, this is simply, in our opinion one of the most amazing places to stay in Cornwall.

Portloe is one of those quintessential little Cornish fishing villages, beautifully positioned around a stunning little cove and harbour. Like many such villages, smuggling played a large part in Portloe's history with many tales of cat and mouse games played between locals and the authorities! In 1824, the problem became so bad that Customs ordered the construction of a Watch House, boathouse and slipway in a vain attempt to deter the illicit trade. The Boathouse is a conversion of this historic property and has been a family home for many years. It is now offered as a unique holiday home with quite incredible views from the sitting room, stunning glass fronted balcony and master bedroom. It is an undeniably beautiful location where you can relax, enjoy the views, ramble on the dramatic coastal footpath, swim in the clear waters of the little harbour from the bottom of your own slipway, fish from the rocks and sleep to the sound of the waves below!

The Portloe Boathouse is set out over two floors, very comfortably furnished in a classical style. The sitting room of course benefits from the amazing views which can be enjoyed in all weathers from the comfort of your armchair. Possibly in adverse weather, the view is even more dramatic and it is a great place to enjoy some storm watching! Throughout the house, there is plenty of space from the kitchen to the huge master bedroom and it has a really comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. Access to the slipway and cove below is direct from the garden, although please bear in mind that this is at your own risk. You are welcome to bring a kayak or boat to leave on the slipway for the duration of your holiday.
