Tourist Attractions:
  • Thomas Hardy Cottage: is a beautiful secluded place to visit if you are following the Thomas Hardy Trail through Dorset.The cottage, just outside Higher Bockhapmton, was built by Hardy’s great-grandfather in 1800 and little has been altered externally since then. Visit website
  • Maiden Castle : Is the largest and most famous pre-Roman fortress in Britain. The site is not a “castle” in the medieval sense of the term, but a hilltop enclosure defended by high banks and ditches. Maiden Castle is nearly 47 acres in size, with banks as high as 80 feet. Visit website
  • Portland Bill : And Chesil Beach which are the graveyards of many vessels that failed to reach Weymouth or Portland Roads. The Portland Race is caused by the meeting of the tides between the Bill and the Shambles sandbank about 3 miles SE. Visit website
