Overview

Barncastle, a Cotswolds large holiday house which is located in Painswick. A town which is often referred to as the Queen of the Cotswolds due to it’s fine buildings of pale grey limestone. They are a reflection of the town’s former prosperity during its early years as a successful cloth industry town.

The town contains many notable houses built in the prosperous seventeenth century and has lots of little streets to explore and quaint shops to discover. The Painswick Valley with its fast flowing streams attracted the cloth industry in the 18th and 19th century, and had thriving 30 mills operating in the town making the area very affluent.

Barncastle is a large, recently converted luxury Cotswold stone barn, nestling in the beautiful Painswick valley and built on the site of a Medieval Castle and boasts some  outstanding countryside views over the Cotswolds.

This gorgeous large holiday home is close to the lovely Cotswold towns of Painswick and Stroud and within a short distance of nearby Historic Gloucester, with its excellent transport links and beautiful Cathedral, and Regency Cheltenham with its wonderful restaurants, shopping and Racing.

Barncastle can sleep up to 10 poeple comfortably and can offer ideal family accommodation with cot and highchair available on request. There is ample parking at the front of the property.

Nearby visit Berkeley Castle a beautiful preserved castle, still with a flavour of its days as a Normam fortress. Impressive paintings, furnishings and silver. Find old keep and Great Hall and the dungeon where Edward II was murdered in 1327. Bibury Trout Farm is also worth a visit and is situated in one of the most popular villages in the area with lovely golden streamside houses owned by NT built along the side of the River Coln. Bibury Trout Farm is a long-established working farm breeding rainbow trout in forty ponds and tanks. You can feed the fish or try to catch your own

Eating and Drinking:In Painswick Village the Edgemoor Inn is well worth a visit. The The Inn is late 19th century and constructed from Cotswold stone, has picture style windows and is well known for its pretty panoramic views. There is an extensive range of home cooked meals and daily specials are served each day lunchtime and evening. Vegetarian menus are always available. Again in Painswick try St. Michaels House, a family run Restaurant which is located in a 17th century Grade II listed building which has a wealth of character, overlooking the famous village church. The lunch menu is relaxed and congenial with the emphasis on great value dishes. The evening menu is more formal, the emphasis being on enjoying the evening in comfort and style.
