The Long Barn is a Luxury Somerset Large Holiday Home and nestles between the Quantock Hills and the Blackdowns, 3 miles west of Taunton, this large, airy converted barn has every modern convenience.

If you are looking for relaxation and tranquility in a peaceful rural setting, The Long Barn is the ideal luxury retreat for up to 12 people.
Unwind, relax and enjoy the atmosphere of The Long Barn at Pontispool, set in the heart of the picturesque Vale of Taunton Deane, Somerset.

Escape from the stress of everyday living by embracing the views of the rolling Quantock Hills on one side and the Blackdowns on the other.

The 6 ensuite bedrooms can be either singles or kingsize doubles, depending on your preference. Crisp white linen, fluffy towels, bathrobes, and toileteries are provided for each guest.

The large kitchen is well equipped, but don’t feel you have to use it as caterers can be supplied to suit your needs.

The indoor heated pool, swimming towels provided, a games room, and a hot tub under the stars, are exclusively yours. The private garden, overlooking open fields, includes a summerhouse, BBQ and a natural pond, fenced for safety.

Tourist Attractions: Visit Combe Sydenham Hall which nestles in a hidden Exmoor Valley. The buildings give a very special opportunity to see history restored. The estate allows observation of unspoilt nature at its best.mountain biker, take to the Freer Ride Trails. Something for all the family. Just a few minutes from Somerset’s County Town of Taunton, are Hestercombe Gardens. Hestercombe is a unique collection of three gardens spanning three centuries of garden history and design. Set in over 40 acres of woodlland, the landscape and formal gardens offers peace, tranquillity, wonderful walks with views to take your breath away. Also close by is Somerset County Museum which is set in the historic building of Taunton Castle, a superb collection of toys and dolls, plus a rare display of archaeological items many of which are of Roman origin. And don’t forget to visit West Somerset Railway which is Britain’s longest “Heritage” Railway running from Bishops Lydeard to the coast at Minehead. There are nine restored stations en route serving a variety of destinations. The railway runs special themed trains throughout the year and large-scale events including Steam Rallies, and team Fayre and Vintage Vehicle rally.

Eating and Drinking: Try the Candlelight Inn in the pretty village of Bishopswood, set in the heart of the Blackdown Hills, this is dairy country with lots of good local produce. Or Seven miles from Taunton and based at the heart of the historic village of Milverton, in Somerset, The Globe is a village pub with a difference Originally an old coaching Inn it has been refurbished in a contemporary style. Offering an extensive menu, from a quick an easy lunch option to the sensational a la carte menu, not forgetting the traditional Sunday lunch. The ideal place for a quiet drink or a quick meal or to celebrate any special occasion. There is also The Castle Hotel in the centre of Taunton, whose philosophy is to use only the best local ingredients translates into a dining experience that highlights the West Country at its finest.

Foodstore: The nearest supermarket is Sainsbury’s which is located in Taunton and just five minute drive away. Why not pre order your grocery order for delivery for the cottage.

Sporting Activities: For a bit of Golfing visit Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Course a 18 hole par 69 in wonderful surroundings; is a challenging test, which rewards the brave while encouraging the less adventurous - ideal for a golf society of all standards. There is Horse Riding at Mill House Riding Centre, which offer a fantastic range of facilities, over 30 well schooled horses and ponies and BHS & ABRS trained and qualified staff. We cater for all abilities in a friendly, safe environment. The Riding Centre’s horses and ponies have been carefully chosen to be safe, sensible and fun and include many different breeds ranging from shetlands to  thoroughbreds. We’ve horses and ponies that are suitable for lessons for riders of all abilities. And for Children visit The Fun Farm at Taunton who offer Quad bike course with 50cc and 90cc quad bikes for children aged six and above including adults. Farm park with piglets, lambs and red deer with a indoor children’s adventure playground.

Things you should know about Long Barn: As with many rural areas, mobile phone reception can be variable depending on your provider. We have found most networks operate inside the building however Vodaphone can be a little ‘patchy’ in certain areas.
