Porlock Weir is on Exmoor National Park and is the perfect destination for a family holiday or a gorgeous romantic getaway. A holiday cottage on Exmoor has plenty of to offer both families and couples. You can choose from a relaxing week surrounded by some of the most scenic landscape in the South West of England, or you can use your time to explore the wider attractions of the local area: Porlock Weir is renowned as a local tourist attraction and as well as the lovely pebbled beach, the pretty harbour is home to many small boats, several interesting historic buildings, and there is even the remains of a submerged prehistoric forest beneath the shallow waters.

If you have been to Porlock Weir you will know this cottage. If you brought a camera there is a good chance you have photographed it and now for the first time you can have your holiday in this spectacular beach front cottage. This iconic thatched Cottage which is set in the heart of Porlock Weir over looking the harbour and surrounding coastline of Exmoor can be reached at by crossing the bridge on to the island. This cottage sleeps up to 5 people in 3 bedrooms and comes complete with it’s own private walled garden backing onto the beach at Porlock Weir.

The cottage comes complete with 2 private parking spaces. Once parked you need to cross the bridge onto Turkey Island which has 3 cottages in total. The end thatched cottage is Quay Cottage which we are very excited to be able to offer for Private lets for this first time in it’s history.

Tourist Attractions: Nearby is Tropiquaria Animal & Adventure Park, a great day out for adults and children of all ages. Hold a snake or creepie-crawly in the Tropical Hall, visit the amazing puppet show and the aquarium. Outside play for hours on the full-size pirate ships or in the Indoor Play Castle. Or visit Dunster Castle which is now managed by the National Trust and overlooks the beautiful village & surrounding area. Dunster castle has been a strategically important fixture to the exmoor landscape for the last 1000 years. It has a dramatic hill top location that overlooks Exmoor & the Bristol channel And don’t forget to visit West Somerset Railway which is Britain’s longest “Heritage” Railway running from Bishops Lydeard to the coast at Minehead. There are nine restored stations en route serving a variety of destinations. The railway runs special themed trains throughout the year and large-scale events including Steam Rallies, and team Fayre and Vintage Vehicle rally.

Eating and Drinking:The Botttom Ship Inn is in Porlock Weir which serves homemade food using local, fresh produce is served in our bar area daily. Local Real ales and Ciders are served in our bar.. In Porlock there are several pubs and restaurants, so try Piggy in The Middle which has been established for over 18 years and has been responsible for providing outstanding quality food ever since. Speciality is in the area of fresh local game, meats and seafood and our regular customers particularly value the friendly ambience.

Foodstore: There Cost Cutters in Porlock and the neares supermarket is Tesco which is located in Minehead which is 6 miles away. Why not pre order your grocery order for delivery for the cottage.

Sporting Activities: For a spot of Golf try Minehead Golf Course a challenging and enjoyable course. The second oldest course in the South West after Royal North Devon. Whilst preserving the best traditions of the sport, we have a progressive outlook and take pride in both maintaining and developing our magnificent course. There is always a warm and friendly welcome to individual golfers, societies, corporate groups and visitors. There is wide choice of Horse Riding Stables locally but you could try Burrowhayes Farm RidingStables are open to non-resident and offer horses and ponies to suit all members of the family, novice or experienced. Also you could try some hang gliding, canoeing, falconry, trout fishing and sea fishing which is all accessible locally.
