Overview

Gray Manes is perfect for Somerset Large Holiday Home and ideal for large gatherings of family and friends for celebrations and holidays. If you are looking for relaxation and tranquility in a peaceful rural setting this lovely detached blue lias stone house is for you, situated in an outstanding location surrounded by farmland and beautiful views. It stands in its own land of just under two acres, enough space for even the most energetic.

The facilities are superb, exclusive use of large indoor pool with changing facilities, a games room with 7ft pool table, air hockey and table football. A seperate toddler’s playroom, just off the kitchen furnished with small children in mind and with suitable toys. The children’s play area outside includes climbing frame, slide and trampoline, in the summer we also provide badminton and croquet sets and football nets, plenty to keep everybody entertained.

A patio runs the length of the house catching the sun nearly all day, it is a lovely place to sit and relax. In the summer months it is just great for al fresco eating, looking out over the garden to distant views, there is a large gas BBQ and all the garden furniture you need.

This beautifully furnished house will sleep 12 adults plus 4 children in comfort in 6 double bedrooms each with its own bathroom/shower room. Gray Manes has large entertaining and dining areas equipped with everything you need for a truly memorable stay. The heart of the house is the fabulous 27ft sitting room, blending rich leather with mellow oak. The large stone inglenook fireplace and double patio doors make this room a place to celebrate whatever the season.

Gray Manes has just been refurbished and equipped to the highest standard. The kitchen has cream “shaker” style units, slate flooring and granite work surfaces. It has all the equipment you would expect including American fridge/freezer with ice dispenser, dishwasher and twin oven range cooker with gas hob. Off the kitchen is a large utility room/boot room with a washer dryer.

The solid oak refectory table easily seats twelve and the breakfast area seats six.
The heart of the house is the fabulous 27ft drawing room seating 14 with ease on large leather sofas, a natural stone inglenook fireplace with large log burner and a 42 inch flat screen TV and double doors to the patio.

The playroom is a safe environment for small children to watch their favourite DVD’s and suitable toys are provided. Being just off the kitchen it is easy to keep a close eye on them, whilst the older ones take advantage of the well equipped games room.

There is also a separate sitting area where a large window offers lovely views over the garden; it is a great space to read a book.

All bedrooms are of a good size with zip and link beds which can be set up as either twins or super kings. All rooms have their own bathroom/shower room, TV and plenty of hanging and drawer space. We supply all linen, towels and robes and well as a selection of toiletries. All rooms will take a travel cot or toddlers bed.

The sofa in the playroom can be converted to a double bed, ideal for children, creating a seventh bedroom, this room linked with the downstairs bedroom creates a fabulous family suite sleeping 2 adults and three children.

The booking price includes all fuel, logs for the fire, as well as toiletries in the bathrooms, bath towels and robes, baby accessories, swimming towels and a basket of seasonal local produce.

Child Friendly: There is a separate playroom just off the kitchen for smaller members of the family with a tv dvd and suitable toys. Somewhere close by so you can easily keep an eye on them and which will provide a safe play area for toddlers. Outside there is a large level lawn and we provide Badminton and Lawn Croquet sets (plus a set of rules) in the summer months. For your more energtic family members there is a large play area and trampoline, the acre and half of grounds provide plenty of room for football and cricket games. Hopefully to make your life and packing easier we can let you borrow a range of baby and toddler items.

Beauty Treatments at the Cottage: My Personal Sanctuary delivers first class therapists direct to you at the property of your choice.  They literally bring the Spa to You! Their service is ideal if you are planning a party or special occasion for friends or a loved one.

Tourist Attractions: Just a short drive away is Muchelney Abbey, the remains of a medieval Benedictine abbey alongside a complete Tudor house, which still has some fascinating features within. Visitors can still see the clearly laid out foundations of the abbey, parts of the richly decorated cloister walk and thatched monks’ lavatory- the only one of its kind in Britain. Also close by is Stembridge Tower which was built in 1822, this is the last remaining thatched windmill in England - the last survivor of five in the area. Another great day out is a ride on East Somerset Railway. During our five mile return journey, you are pulled by lovingly restored steam engines whilst watching the rolling Mendip Hills drift slowly by.

Eating and Drinking: There is a wide choice of Pubs and Restaurants in Langport. Try Langport Arms Hotel who have a Carvery Restaurant which is ideal for all occasions. Whether you require an intimate table for two or large parties. There is always a good selection of meats accompanied by a variety of fresh seasonal vegetables. There is a choice of desserts from the chilled display and wines available from the main wine list.Also try The Halfway House in Langport which  has been awarded CAMRA Somerset pub of the year on many occasions and bagged the Daily Telegraph Perfect Pub award in 2006. Renowned for a great selection of food in the evenings, a good selection of ales and even rough cider, including Heck’s Traditional Somerset Farmhouse Cider from Street.

Foodstore: You can buy sell good quality organic and local food at Pitney Farm Shop. The nearest large supermarket is Tesco in Langport.  Why not pre order your grocery order for delivery for the cottage.

Sporting Activities: For a round of Golf visit Long Sutton Golf Club which is a privately owned parkland Golf Course set in the heart of South Somerset. Members, guests, golf societies and visitors are all assured of a warm and friendly welcome. Set in 118 acres, some 6352 yards in length, it is a par 71 course for men and par 72 for ladies. For  those keen fisherman- a short morning stroll away and you will find Viaduct Fishery.Six well stocked lakes in the beautiful cary valley. Professionally managed and fully pathed,with 136 proper timber constructed fishing platform,safe car parking and disabled access. There is also excellent Horse Riding at Naydon Equestrian in West Lydford which offers expert riding tuition to individuals and groups of all ages. Set amongst 50 acres of open paddocks and  an all-weather flood lit arena and access to off road hacking via adjoining public bridleway. Visitors to the riding school benefit from expert tuition from our BHS accredited instructors who offer lessons for riders of all ages and abilities individually or as part of a group.
