Emmett’s Grange is a fabulous Somerset Large Holiday Home which is sat within an exquisite 900 acre estate the elegant Georgian style house of Emmett’s Grange has some of the most stunning views out onto the wild and rugged Exmoor landscape; providing fantastic clear fresh air and wonderfully spectacular skies.
At 1,250 feet, Emmett’s Grange is the highest farm on Exmoor. At the centre of the estate sits the Grange, the main house which sleeps 11, alongside a smaller Linhay which sleeps 2. Both provide first class luxury accommodation and are found at the end of their own private drive, framed by mature beech trees and looking out onto fields and moorland.
Ideal for larger family groups and celebrations, the Grange is the perfect property to spend a holiday and is a unique and spectacular paradise for anyone who enjoys walking, riding, cycling or simply relaxing amidst beautiful scenery. The house provides a range of impressive public rooms, whilst delicious locally sourced meals can be provided on request. The additional Linhay can be booked out with the house for groups of 13, but also be booked out separately making it an ideal space for a couples retreat.
On entering the traditional hallway your eyes are immediately drawn to light from the morning room which opens on the first door on the left. Decorated in powder blue the gentile room features a Steinway piano, electric guitar, cornet and trumpet to practice with. Anyone listening can relax on the padded window seating which provides some of the best views out onto miles of Exmoor countryside.
You can then move onto the Victorian conservatory. With its widescreen TV and Wii games console it’s a favourite place for the children to relax, and with a large pine dining table it’s ideal for lunch and evening meals. With views onto the woodland and gardens it can also be the ideal spot to relax on the sofa and bask in the warmth of the summer sunshine.
Through the double doors is the kitchen. With views out onto the courtyard the traditional farmyard kitchen features a double fridge/freezer, dishwasher, gas oven, and plenty of work space to make a tasty meal. For drinks there is the Butler’s pantry, a charming bar area. With a wine cooler and seating overlooking the courtyard it’s the perfect place for adults to while away the hours.
For more formal dinners outside of the kitchen you can pass into the exquisite candlelit dining room complete with open fire and antique furniture. With seating for 12, catering can also be provided on request with menus of sumptuous locally sourced, seasonal meals.
Passing up the grand carpeted staircase you reach the long hallway through which all the beautifully furnished rooms of the Grange lead off.
The first room is the Knight Room. Named after the Knight family who built the Grange in the 1840’s the luscious yellow room boasts a super king size bed with pelmet and an additional single bed. The king size bed can also easily be spilt into two to allow a room of three single beds. The room also comes with a large blue en-suite bathroom with bath, shower and WC.
Further up the corridor lies the Derby Haddon room, a cosy twin room overlooking the courtyard. Named after a great character that lived at the Grange in the 1960’s the room also has its own private bathroom and WC.
On the opposite side of the corridor is the Josh Brown room - named after the late Josh
Brown who resided with his family at Emmett’s for 25 years up until the 1990s. The incredibly cosy twin or double room comes with its own sofa and views out onto the moor.
At the end of the corridor is our final room; the Bunk Room. This cosy room with views out onto the courtyard has a set of bunk beds making it ideal for children. Both the bunk room and the Josh Brown room share a large bathroom with bath and WC decorated in a stylish blue beachside theme.
Outside the front of the house sits a large croquet lawn with wooden tables and chairs. With unforgettable views out to the surrounding moorland estate, it’s the perfect way to spend an afternoon. A traditional vegetable garden and fully sized tennis court also sit to the side of the house and all feature exquisite uninterrupted views out onto the surrounding countryside. To the back of the house lies the courtyard where many of the chickens and guinea fowl spend their days. One of the old barns features a large table tennis table, snooker table and skittle alley making it an ideal escape for the children.
Further afield guests have sole use of the Estates some 900 acres and are free to walk and ride across the miles of unspoilt moorland.

Eating and Drinking: The Poltimore Arms is about a mile from Emmetts Grange. It’s a traditional and totally unspoilt Exmoor inn, serving locally brewed real ale and has an appetising menu. It’s remoteness means it’s still not connected to the national grid, so you’ll hear the generator gently chugging away as you arrive

Sporting Activities: For a spot of Golf try Minehead Golf Course a challenging and enjoyable course. The second oldest course in the South West after Royal North Devon. Whilst preserving the best traditions of the sport, we have a progressive outlook and take pride in both maintaining and developing our magnificent course. Also you could try some hang gliding, canoeing, falconry, trout fishing and sea fishing which is all accessible locally.
Things you should know about Emmett’s Grange: The front lawn is bordered by a Ha-ha, which has a drop of about 1m. If you’re planning to walk, then wellies and walking boots are recommended all year round - but Emmetts does have its own boot room for storage when not in use. While the house does have wi-fi and broadband connection, mobile phone coverage in the house and grounds is a little patchy. Dogs are only permitted on the ground floor.
