Overview
The Original Hut Company offer you the chance to experience adventure self catering and is the ideal eco friendly holiday. In bygone days, agricultural workers working away from the farm were often accommodated in huts; be this a shepherd during lambing, a game keeper on a large estate, or a gillie on a valuable stretch of river. There were of course manufactures of huts, but very often these quirky little abodes were fashioned on the farm from surplus materials.
These UNIQUE Huts are sited on Quarry Farm in the tiny village of Bodiam. The River Rother meanders quietly through the valley flanked on either side by open farmland. The unpolluted waters, which guests are free to fish, offers a perfect habitat for all sorts of flora, fauna and wildlife.
The huts are fully equipped and a linen service is provided and each hut has outside dining furniture and its own fire pit for cooking. A gas hob is fitted for convenience, as well as a sink with cold running water. Hampers of fine local produce can be arranged for your arrival. These are bespoke and need discussing fairly well in advance.
As shown in the gallery, the hut is quickly and easily changed between its day and night functions. The day bed at one end easily converts to become bunk beds, and the dining table at the other end folds down to make a double bed.
To keep the environmental impact of the accommodation to a minimum the huts are not connected to a mains electric supply. Electric lighting is provided by means of a solar panel on the roof offering an easy and safe means of lighting.
The third hut shown in the image provides washing facilities. It houses two loos with basins and two showers. Each have both a hot and a cold water supply.
Eco Escapes: The huts offer ideal eco friendly self catering and are constructed using recycled chassis from touring caravans. This also makes them considerably more maneuverable than those on traditional iron wheels and the roofs are made from an old corn bin, and the timber for the work tops and seat covers is sourced from sustainable woods on the farm. The remaining timber used in the construction is all from responsibly farmed forests. The paint is ’Farrow and Ball’ with are dyed using natural pigments. The 12volt lighting system is powered via a solar panel on the roof.
Tourist Attractions: Visit Lamb House a fine brick-fronted house with literary associations, both Henry James and E. F. Benson lived here. Offering beautiful and surprisingly large town gardens. Just on the door step is Camber Castle. Enjoy a family guided tour around this historic castle built by Henry VIII. Camber Castle lies between Rye and Winchelsea. The ruin of an unusually unaltered artillery fort designed to guard the port of Rye. A day out on the The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway is a must, with its marvellous miniature steam engines is a favourite with families. The full size, restored steam trains can take you to beautiful Bodiam Castle, or you can explore our local vineyards, where you may take a tour or taste the wines before buying a bottle or two to bring home as a special souvenir.
Eating and Drinking: Just a 1/4 mile away is the Castle Inn at Bodiam. The inn offers excellent home-cooked pub food using local produce and has a large restaurant, function room and garden terrace. For something a little special try The Curlew Restaurant in Bodiam and only 2 miles away. The Curlew is a modern British bistro built on four cornerstones: quality, locality, responsibility, seasonality. Head Chef Neil McCue is committed to sourcing the very best quality meat and poultry, fish and seafood, vegetables and fruit he can find.
Foodstore: The nearest small food store is Busters Farm Shop which is 4 miles away and the nearest supermarket is Sainsbury’s which is located in Hastings and only 5 miles away. Why not pre order your grocery order for delivery for the cottage.
Sporting Activities: Quarry Farm offer cycle hire and, there is also a ‘GO Ape’ at the nearby Bedgebury Pinetum. Bedgebury Forest is the big new wild adventure in the South East of England. A new lakeside visitor centre is the hub from which bike trails, the Go Ape course and the best children’s adventure play trail we have come across can be found. The beautiful National Pinetum is a stone’s throw away
And for a spot of golf visit Lydd Glof Club set on the Romney Marsh, a tactical blend of bunkering, strategically placed lakes, wispy rough and wind makes this course a real challenge. Combine that with its natural beauty and you will be playing a course you will never forget.
Things you should know about The Original Huts: The huts are on a working farm, which can sometimes be noisy.

Testimonials
"Thank you for a fantastic weekend! Our stay was everything we hoped it would be and not even the rain could spoil the fun of staying in such a cosy place. The hut was beautifully decorated and had everything one would need. I’ll be sure to recommend the Original Hut Company to anyone wanting to enjoy staying in the great outdoors without sacrificing a bit of luxury! "

"We absolutely loved our weekend in the huts. Opening the doors in the morning to the peace and quiet of amazing countryside and watching the girls run around collecting nature treasures while we drank a cup of tea on the steps of the hut was absolute bliss. The children loved it so much they wanted to live there for ever"
