Overview

The Beach Hut is a totally Unique Retreat, offering you the chance to stay on the beach in this self catering beach hut. Tucked away on the South Devon coast and close by to Carswell working organic dairy farm and situated on a secluded beach with your own private cove.

The Beach Hut is situated on Carswell’s isolated, totally private cove, and offers the chance to really escape for a few days away from it all!

Where else can you enjoy your own private beach, totally isolated down a steep cliff path, with the most amazing views of the stunning South Devon coast and out to sea? Imagine lighting up the BBQ, cracking open a bottle of wine and just chilling out listening to the sounds of the waves crashing on the rocks.

The beach hut has a double bed that you climb up a ladder to get to, a large table with bench seats, double gas hob and a sink. The small kitchen area has all the pots, pans, crockery and cutlery that you need for your stay. There is running water, but no electricity - so lighting is provided by simple windup lanterns and there is a camping cool box for your food. The hut has a small woodburner inside, so if the evening turns chilly you will be still be toasty and warm indoors.

Outside there is a fantastic woodfired hot tub for you to relax in at the end of a hard day playing on the beach and swimming! Just light up the woodburner attached and keep it fed for a few hours and the hot tub will be ready for use... lovely! There is a compost toilet in the outside shed and a simple outside shower as well.

Organic Options: Carswell is a working organic dairy farm situated right on the South Devon coast. Peacefully tucked away on our working organic dairy farm, but you are welcome to come and watch the cows being milked and have a tour of the milking parlour. We also offer an organic Devon dinner hamper to guests can be provided on request in advance.

What you can see from the windows: Views of the sea, coast and cliffs.

Tourist Attractions: Close by, visit the River Erme and Estuary in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The River Erme rises on Dartmoor and flows through Ivybridge on its way to the south coast of Devon. One of the best large sandy beach is at Mothecombe which is about 2 miles away. Privately owned but open to the public, these are beautiful and usually less busy beaches set within gentle tree covered cliffs. They are ideal for swimming, windsurfing, picnics and general relaxing. Dogs are allowed on parts of the beach. A day out in Plymouth will keep you busy with a visit to The Royal Citadel. A dramatic 17th-century fortress built to defend the coastline from the Dutch, and keep watch on a recently rebellious town. Still in use by the military today. And the National Marine Aquarium where you can explore a rock pool and ramble in Shallow Waters then move deeper into the coastal seas of the Atlantic Reef. Here you’ll find the Atlantic Ocean tank teeming with sharks, rays, tarpon and countless other species swimming in shoals or grazing on a sunken WWII sea plane.

Eating and Drinking: Only 3 miles away visit The Ship Inn at Noss Mayo an  award winning waterside pub has been completely renovated using reclaimed materials, English oak, local stone, and lots of love and affection.  Enjoy good, fresh, homemade food, great beers and interesting wines, whilst surrounded by wooden floors, old furniture, log fires, bookcases and dozens of local pictures. And in Holbeton the Dartmoor Union a sixteenth-century hostelry restaurant and bar with its great reputation for first-class, freshly prepared food, and value for money.

Foodstore: The nearest food store is Riverford Farm Shop and there is a Co-Op in Newton Ferrers.

Sporting Activities: If you like walking you’ve come to the right place - there are enough walks round here to last a lifetime! Coastal walks are our favourites but walks on Dartmoor also give you a completely different outlook day walk or a full program of walks, we can meet your every need. There is also some great opportunities for some great days out cycling. Carswell offer advice on the best routes as they are mostly tried and tested! There is room for you to store your own bikes here or you can organise bike hire in advance by contacting ‘Alltrax’ Plymouth Cycle Scene. if you’re keen on fishing Nick Oatway has several small suitable boats for hire and will also organise a day trip fishing on his larger boat. For Horse riding visit Newton Ferrers’ Equestrian Centre which has many lovely natured residents ranging in size from the smaller pony to the larger horse. And there is no better place to spend your days sailing and the nearest is at Salcombe  and the Island Cruising Club or Salcombe Dinghy Sailing.

Things you should know about The Beach Hut: Access to the Beach Hut is from Carswell Farm (where you can park your car) and then you have a 15 minute walk, including a steep path down to the cove. There is no access for vehicles, so you will need to carry everything you want in a rucksack and wear sturdy footwear.
