The Old Sawmills is home of the famous recording studio also a stunning and unique retreat which offers luxury self catering accommodation.

Located in beautiful tidal creek on the banks of the River Fowey, Sawmills sleeps 16 in 7 bedrooms and is a haven of tranquility, surrounded by water and acres of natural woodland, there are excellent scenic walks that can be joined from the grounds.

There is a charming riverside pub just a 15 minute walk away in Golant. The picturesque town of Fowey is just a 10 minute boat ride away, Fowey can also be reached by road from Golant or footpath from the Sawmills.

No vehicular access keeps Sawmills a unique and magical hideaway but cars can be parked in Golant, boat transfer included in holiday and smaller boats can be hired and delivered if required.

The accommodation is located in the main house which is exclusively for the use of guests and comprises 7 bedrooms in total: 3 doubles each with en-suite, 2 doubles, 1 twin bedded room and 1 room sleeping 4. There is a family bathroom plus 1 further bathroom, large lounge, kitchen, conservatory and dining area.

Access is by boat and guests will be picked up at the start of the holiday from the village of Golant and taken back when they leave.

Tourist Attractions: No visit to Cornwall would be complete without a day’s visit to the Eden Project with its distinctive white domes, the Eden Project is Cornwall’s best-known tourist attraction. But it’s much more than just a big green theme park and visitors can expect to come away with a better understanding of the environment and their interaction with it. Also visit Tregrehan Garden a dramatic 20ha woodland garden created over the last 200 years by the Carlyon family, forming an exotic green gene bank of known source plants in a temperate rainforest. Within tower some two dozen trees recorded as the biggest of their type in the country. And a day trip to Bodmin will keep you busy on a wet day. The Bodmin & Wenford Railway is part of a network of railways that grew up around Bodmin from 1834, when the original Bodmin & Wadebridge Railway opened. The line ran from Wadebridge to Wenfordbridge, with a branch line to Bodmin, and was built to transport sand from the Camel Estuary. And Bodmin Jail which was built in 1778 to house criminals from throughout the county of Cornwall. It was the first jail known to hold inmates in individual cells and was notorious for the public executions by hanging, which took place outside the jail until 1862.

Eating and Drinking: Fishermans Arms which 1/2 a mile away in Golant. A charming character Inn dating back to 1826 with spacious outside terraces boasting stunning views over the River Fowey and a choice of Traditional Cask Ales, Hot & Cold Meals. Also in Golant is Cormorant Restaurant. In summer the outdoor dining terrace is perfect for a light lunch, or al fresco dining. In Fowey for something a bit different visit Food for thought which is set on the Quayside and includes an outside dining area which is popular during summer months. Despite the emphasis on local seafood, the restaurant also servesa good selection of meat dishes including Cornish Lamb and Cornish Beef fillets.

Foodstore: The nearest food store is a Coop in St Blasey which is 3.5 miles away. In Fowey there is a local general stores called Park Road Stores or the owners will arrange a grocery delivery for your arrival on request.

Sporting Activities: Boats can be hired and delivered to you at the Sawmills by Fowey River Boat Hire. fishing and sea trips can be arranged in Fowey. Guests are welcome to bring their own boats if they wish and a deep water mooring is available.

There are many scenic walks in the surrounding area - some of which can be joined directly from the Sawmills. In Fowey you can hire a Kayak and travel independently for several miles of the Fowey river, upstream from Fowey, enjoying the fabulous scenery and wildlife from a kayak. And for some sailing visit Fowey Maritime Centre a sailing power boat school charter RTA training centre, a recognised training centre with excellent facilities including interactive whiteboards, modern computers and equipment.

Things you should know about The Old Sawmills:No road access keep the old Sawmills a unique hideaway. Access is by boat or footpath. Footpath walk takes 15 minutes. Cars can be parked in carpark in village. Apart from arrival and departure you will have to arrange your own boat if you wish to take advantage of the water access.
